Aoife Brennan trained as a botanical illustrator and now works mostly with the plants themselves, pressing and arranging specimens with a restraint that borders on the surgical. Sea holly, bracken, hawthorn; the coastal flora of the south-east is her quiet subject. Her studies read like pages from a Victorian herbarium, but the eye behind them is entirely modern. She lives near the saltmarsh she keeps photographing at dawn.
